Shortly after getting married and purchasing our home we were anxious to get our first dog
together.  We came across a dominantly white with black patched female Border Collie from a
breeder in Indiana. We went to see the pup and instantly fell in love with her. Now for the catch,
there were two pups left and how could we possibly leave that cute little male tri all alone. We both
had the same thought and we came back to our new home with not one, but two wonderful
Border Collies who we named Sadie and Sampson.

A year later and lots of family fun with the dogs we got word of the USDDN event here in
Louisville. We knew nothing of the sport and had only thrown a floppy disc in the back yard a little
with Sadie, she was a natural, Sampson could are less at this point. After some research we
ordered some discs and practiced throwing to Sadie the week before the event. We placed 3rd in
novice toss/catch. We became quickly addicted to the thrill and fun of the sport of disc doggin’!

That spring Sampson became interested in catching the disc and we now had a true family sport
that we both could participate in with the dogs. As we learned more of the sport and disc dog
clubs in the region we formed a disc dog club in our area, Flying Houndz of Louisville.

During the summer of 2006 we focused on the club growth, attracting new members, making our
community aware of the sport of disc dogs, performing our first of many demos for local shelter
events and performing shows at various sporting events.

As summer ended we decided to add another BC to our family and we found our fun new pup,
Vegas. Shortly after Vegas, we fostered a shelter BC that almost had his last day. Needless to say
we kept him and now Turk was a member of our family of 4 BC’s. With no kids we now had our full
family, hence the name Borderkidz.

Disc dogging has changed our lives dramatically and we are so grateful and blessed. All the
friends and club members we have met along the way we consider our extended family.  Flying
Houndz of Louisville and all the joys of socializing with the awesome people have become our
life.  Each new day brings great joy and satisfaction for the wonderful bond we have formed with
our dogs.
